Fourth Week of May

24 May 2011

First of all, Mr. Herry write down on the white board the name of each member in those three jazz groups and it also decided the order of who will be the first, second and last to do the performance assessment. After that, Mr. Herry give us time around five to ten minutes for us to have a preparation before the group jazz performance assessment. In this given time, I believe that all of the groups are practicing their song and in my group we practice like almost five times to play the song starting from the intro part until the end of the song. Then we come back to the music room and my group is the first group to do this group performance assessment. I think we have done our best to do this performance and everything is work well such as the collaboration of the different instrument or it is synchronize. The next is Brian’s group with the song I Got Rhythm. However, this group still needs to be guided at the assessment day. And the last is Jeffrey Koby’s group with the song Summertime. I think this group has done a really good performance and they have a really nice ending of the song. After we done with the performance, then we have to write down our own reflection based on this performance assessment. Then Mr. Herry give us the Music Developmental Workbook that we need to complete it by next session.

First of all, Mr. Herry check our attendance. Before he check our attendance, Mr. Herry remind us that today we should do the rehearsal again. After that, Mr. Herry give My Grade 10 Music Assessment Score paper and then he read out loud our score and we should write our own score in that paper. Next, Mr. Herry show us the online reflection blog, he show us the good examples of the blog. Then we start with the rehearsal. The first group to do the rehearsal is Koby, Harsya, Raymond, Caleb, Juan, Ais, Emily, Yovita with Summertime song. In the intro part, they’re not really ready and in the middle part of the song they didn’t really know where to start playing again. Therefore, Mr. Herry decided that after the lunch break this group will re-do the rehearsal. After the lunch break, this group do a better performance. They have a good intro however in the middle part of the song they make a big mistake that is the tempo of the song between guitar and piano so they should have better cooperation. Mr. Herry remind us that a good song that attract the audience is by having a good impression at the first and at the end it should have an ending or coda. The second group is Ann, Indi, Saskia, Tiara, Dwi, Brian with I Got Rhythm song. They need more practice because they’re not really do a good performance in this rehearsal. The last is my group with Fly Me To The Moon song. Mr. Herry said that our group already have a good structure from intro, song and then ending. However, we still have to maintain on the tempo of the song and also on the ending part or coda. That’s all for today’s class.


This is the thirteenth video that I have recorded while I’m playing the piano in term 4. In this video, I’m still practicing to play the chords of Fly Me To The Moon. I think I have did a good playing in this video however, in the ending part I forgot to repeat the coda and I just go straight to the ending.

Although I think in the last video I did a better playing but then this time the ending part is correct. I have repeated the coda and then go to the ending part.

Second Week of May

Today I’m a little bit late to come to the music class. First of all, Mr. Herry have write on the white board about what will do for today. On the white board, it says that the first thing is reflection on group jazz rehearsal, then finale feedback rehearsal and then instrument. After that, Mr. Herry shows us the videos and he tells us to watch it. The first video is our group jazz rehearsal last week and then we look at our friends performance such as the grade 10 last year, Caleb singing video where Mr. Herry said that he have a good voice, Harsya singing video where Mr. Herry give a comment that he keep singing although he is out of tune, Koby singing video where he have a good expression of singing the song and last we watch the video of Journey Towards DP two years ago so now they are grade 12. Mr. Herry continue the class by opening our finale soft copy and then he give each of us the specific feedback on how we can improve it for the final submission. At last, we can go to our jazz group. In this time, Mr. Harry ask Victoria and I to go to Mr. Herry to ask his help to make our playing more variation. So both of us didn’t join the group practice and we stay in the music room ask the help of Mr. Herry to teach us making the variation in playing the song. Victoria is not only playing the first note of each chord again but also then she need to play another thing such as play the until the second note of the chord and Mr. Herry ask me to play a little bit different from last time mostly the left hand. I have to play the left hand like walking chords. And finally we can have our recess time.

First of all, Mr. Herry remind us that today is the day for us who want to re-do the group singing assessment. Then Mr. Herry check our attendance and also our resources that we bring to the class. After that, Mr. Herry tell us what we will do for today that are re-do the singing assessment, submit hard copy of the final jingle so Mr. Herry call us one by one to the front to submit it. The first one to re-do the singing assessment is Brian and Jeffrey Pribadi singing So Big. Mr Harry said that they need more expression and while Mr. Herry said nice try. Then the second group is Ivan, Raymond, Ais, Caleb singing Spiderman song. They still reading the lyrics however by doing this re-do Mr. Herry thought that we can make it better by remembering the lyrics and it turns out not like that. After that, Mr. Herry distributed to us the paper where we should write the reflection of making the jingle task. While we are writing the reflection, Ann and Indi is doing their re-do singing and they sing Lean On Me. All of us agree that they sing it loud enough. Then, we can have our lunch break and Mr. Herry said to us that after lunch, we have 20 minutes to practice with the jazz group and then come back to the music room to do another rehearsal. However, my group practice in the music room and due to a reason, Mr. Herry decided that this time is better for us to keep continue practicing rather than having another rehearsal. And at last, we can go home.


This is the eleventh video that I have recorded while I’m playing the piano in term 4. In this video, I’m practicing to play the chords of Fly Me To The Moon. This time I play wih a little bit variation that Mr. Herry have teach me. But then, I haven’t practice if for many times therefore I still make many mistakes and got stuck in the middle of playing it.


This is the twelveth video that I have recorded while I’m playing the piano in term 4. In this video, I’m still practicing to play the chords of Fly Me To The Moon again. This time, I play it with the variation again and I think comparing to the last video, I’m doing it a little bit better. I played in the lower part because I think Mr. Herry ask me to play it there. And hopefully as I have more practice, I can play it better.

First Week of May

First of all, Mr. Herry check once again who have submit the hard copy for the jingle that we have been printed using the finale. Then Mr. Herry check the soft copy and re-check it again who do we haven’t write the feedback for their creation of the jingle. And then there’s only one student that we haven’t give the feedback that is Marcus. I think Marcus jingle creation is suppose to be about candy as his theme but then the song is sad so it will be better if he can change it and make it more like a happy song. After that, Mr. Herry give us tips on how to make a good jingle and that is by using the AA’BA’ pattern and then add it with the chords. It is fine to make a simple one rather than a complicated song but then the result is not good. Overall, Mr. Herry give us the feedback that better we start to do it with the simple one for example the introduction song of I’m Yours – Jason Mraz. And Mr. Herry said that Yovita’s jingle is one of the good jingles. Then Mr. Herry check do we bring our assessment schedule and he also continue to check with our resources that we should bring to the class. After that, Mr. Herry tell us that for the second time singing assessment, we should do more practice to make it better. In the next week Tuesday, we have to submit the final finale jingle and do the rehearsal of the jazz group performance and then on the next Thursday, for the one who want to re-do the singing assessment that’s the time. However, there’s one duet partner who haven’t do the first singing assessment that is Dwi and Wahyu. They sing Heal The World – Michael Jackson. At first, we can’t hear their voice and then Mr. Herry ask them to re-sing it again and this time is better. They sing loud enough and they are more confident to sing. And at last, we can practice for the jazz group performance. At this time, my group practice to play Fly Me To The Moon song. After practicing for around three times, then it’s time for us to have our recess time.

First of all, Mr. Herry ask Jeffrey Koby to check our uniform and he ask for the result of it but then Mr. Herry ask us to stand up again to re-check our uniform and make sure that our shirt are tuck in. And then, Mr. Herry remind us that we shouldn’t be lazy to upload the video on blog because actually we can do it, the only thing that we need is patience while uploading the video. After that, Mr. Herry show us videos from the youtube for examples of the different kind of music group performance/orchestra. The first video that Mr. Herry show to us is Final Countdown with the extreme expression of the music player, the second video is Guiliani Concerto 1, classical song where the one of the player is 13 years old boy. The third video is Carmen Fantasy for flute and orchestra where one of the players is 7 years old girl. And then the fourth video is Everything – Michael Buble, from this video we can learn that we need to make the performance interesting for people to look at it. Another video from Michael Buble that is Haven’t Met You Yet and from this video, we learn that it will be better if it have an attractive intro of the song. And then, we listen to our friends jingle creation that hasn’t been played in the class. The first is Brian’s jingle, but then it’s not the file for jingle so we cancel it. Move on to Emily’s jingle where the theme of the song is about pre-school. It’s a good jingle although she has a lot of notes but then it sounds good, however it will be better if it can be more like a happy song. Mr. Herry said that after lunch, we would have the rehearsal for the jazz group performance but before the rehearsal, we can have a practice for about 10 minutes. However, we practice for 20 minutes. The first group is Ann, Indi, Brian, Dwi, Saskia, Tiara play I Got Rhythm song with the supervisor of Mr. Sadrakh. Overall the feedback for this group is they didn’t start at the same time, too slow for the tempo, they discuss the starting on the stage and they still need a lot of practice together. Moving on to the second group that is Koby, Raymond, Harsya, Ais, Juan, Yovita, Emily play Summertime with the supervisor of Mr. John. The overall feedback for this group is they have a good arrangement, balances of the intro-song-improvisation-closing, need more microphones for the piano, guitar should be careful with the tempo and Mr. Herry said that Koby is a good team player. They can improve their performance by being more relaxed to make it enjoyable and they have a better performance comparing to the other days before. The last is my group. The feedback for my group is we still need more practice together, piano still need to make a variation to make it not boring, the violin need to be more tune. However the guitar have a good solo performance and it have the accompaniment using another guitar. And at last, we can go home.



This is the ninth video that I have recorded while I’m playing the piano in term 4. In this video, I’m practicing to play the chords of Fly Me To The Moon. I played from the intro part then continue with the rest of the song. This time I’ve tried to remember the song and I think I still make mistakes. Stuck a little bit in the middle because I forgot what is the next chord. However, I should do better in the next video.




This is the tenth video that I have recorded while I’m playing the piano in term 4. In this video, I’m practicing to play the chords of Fly Me To The Moon again. At first, I’m sure that I remember the chords but then when I record this video, I think I forgot one of the next chords after the other. So in this video, I make mistakes again. But I think this video is better because in the end of the song I didn’t make mistake. And my group still needs to practice together for this performance of Fly Me To The Moon song.

Fourth Week of April

Today I’m not coming on time to the classroom and it’s because of my last class is physical education that is not inside the school. When I came to the class, Mr. Herry was telling some of the students who haven’t know their score for the essay report. After that, Mr. Herry ask us about our partner or our group members for the singing assessment. At first, Mr. Herry thought that we are prepared and ready to do the rehearsal for this singing assessment but then none of us ready with it. We still haven’t got the minus one of our song and we also not yet practice at all. Then Mr. Herry give us like a comment on our performance that we have show him throughout the time we have music. Mr. Herry said that actually we can do better than this but we didn’t make that kind of effort so Mr. Herry is like making us to be motivated to do our works and make a better performance in this last term. After that, Mr. Herry let us listen to our friends own composition jingle that we have submitted in the music room computer. Then we have to write our comment for every jingle so basically we need to write the comment of our friend’s work one by one. Before we start listening to the jingle, Mr. Herry check our resources that we bring to the music class and then start with listening to the jingles. Mr. Herry give us the paper of where we should write the comment that he have provided “Grade 10 Music Jingle Draft Feedback”. After we done listening to the jingles then we can have our practice time for the jazz group performance but then almost all of us use that time to practice for the singing assessment. And at last, we can have our recess time.

First of all, today is our duet or group singing assessment. We are asking Mr. Herry to let us have a warming up first before we do the singing assessment so Mr. Harry help us to do this warming up. Mr. Herry said that we have to give comments after every performance, he will randomly ask us to make an oral comment and we also have to write it down in our notebook.

My group is the first one to do this singing assessment. My group members are Saskia, Tiara and Victoria, we are singing Let It Be – The Beatles. The summaries of the feedback from others are my group needs to be louder, be more careful with the pitch and it will be better if we remember the lyrics of the song. Then move on to the second group and the members of this group are Frederik, Juan, Ju Yeop Lee, Marco and Marcus singing We Are The World. They did a good performance but it will be better if they have more preparation such as prepared with enough paper for the lyrics so no need to exchange papers with one another, not out of pitch, improve on their actions in the stage and not late to sing at the beginning of the song. Then we move on to the third group and this time is duet between Emily and Yovita. They did a very good performance because they are the first group that remembers the lyrics of their song and they have a good pitch in singing the song. Then it’s time for our lunch, so we can have our lunch break and continue after it. After lunch, we continue with the next group and the members of this group are Ivan, Raymond, Caleb and Ais singing Spiderman. They can make a better performance if they have the division of the voice and be more careful with the pitch while singing the song. Continue with the fifth group and they this is a duet between Harsya and Jeffrey Koby. They have a good pitch in singing the song and they can make it better if they can make it not only one voice like make it into two voices and it will be good if they remember the lyrics of the song. Next is a duet between Ann and Indi. They sing Lean On Me and I think this is the best performance compare to all of the other groups. They remember the lyrics of the song, have a good pitch and they also have a good division of the voice. It will be better if they can make a little bit louder because their voice is not really balance with the minus one and it will be great if they have more choreography while they are singing. The last duet group for today is Brian and Jeffrey Pribadi. They have to improve on the equal amount of the singing part because mostly Jeffrey Pribadi is singing the song and Brian only sing a little bit such as the chorus part only, both of them also out of pitch. Actually there is one more duet group Dwi and Wahyu, but today they are not ready to sing. Mr. Herry give us another chance for the one who want to do this assessment again to improve their score in the next two weeks. This is the end of today’s class and at last, we can go home.


This is the seventh video that I have recorded in term 4. In this video, I’m practicing to sing my group song performance that is singing Let It Be song by The Beatles. This is my first practice of singing the song that’s why although I have use the background voice to help me to sing the song, I’m still out of tune and not in the right pitch. I need more practice to make it better.




This is the eighth video that I have recorded in term 4. In this video, I’m practicing to sing my group song performance again that is singing Let It Be song by The Beatles. This is not my first practice anymore, so I think I have made an improvement a little bit. I’m still using the help of the background voice and this time I’m more in the right pitch but not really good yet. I still need more practice to make a better performance.

Third week of April

19 April 2011

First of all, Mr. Herry asked us to stand up and check our appearance because many of us haven’t tuck in our shirt. And then Mr. Herry write down what we will do for today. After that, Mr. Herry give us the result of our essay about the role of music in the society. I’m satisfied with the score because I got full mark for it. Then Mr. Herry asked us to submit the finale draft for our own creation of the jingle and he also asked us to give him back the essay that are given back to us awhile ago. And then Mr. Herry asked one of the students to distribute the assessment schedule for term 4. We discuss about it for a short time and Mr. Herry also tell us about the next assessment that we will have that is duet singing that will be due exactly next week. It’s up to us for the partner that we will be singing later on. After that, Mr. Herry give us time to prepare the group performance 1st assessment (rehearsal).

So in the time given, my group practice and finalize all those things that we haven’t sure yet especially the intro part and also the ending part of the song.

My group is the first one to perform because we are practicing in the music room and we are already in the front, that’s why Mr. Herry asked us to become the first. After the performance, everyone can give feedback. From the feedback that we got, overall they said that my group need to be more cooperate in the teamwork, work on the beat and also tempo of the song to make it a better performance. And then, for the second group (Brian, Dwi, Ann, Indi, Saskia and Tiara) they are playing I Got Rhythm song. My comment for this group is they need to improve on the tune, tempo of the song, guitar can’t be hear so it should be louder as well as the piano, for the singing it should be louder so people can hear it clearly and last they need to be more synchronize. Continue with the third group (Koby, Raymond, Harsya, Caleb, Wahyu, Ais, Juan, Yovita and Emily) they are playing Summertime song. My comment for this group is they need to be more synchronize, improving in the tempo of the song especially between piano and guitar. I think they can do it better if they have more practice. And finally we can have our recess time although we are late for it because we have to finish the performance before Mr. Herry let us to have our recess time.




This is the fifth video that I have recorded while I’m playing the piano in term 4. In this video, I’m practicing to play the chords of Fly Me To The Moon. I played from the intro part then continue with the rest of the song. After the second chorus of the song, I got a little bit confuse and I almost forgot that I have to stop because that was the time for the guitar to do a solo and then continue to play again. I think I need more practice to make it better.




This is the sixth video that I have recorded while I’m playing the piano in term 4. In this video, I’m practicing to play the chords of Fly Me To The Moon again. I played all of the song starting from the intro until the ending part. I think this time is better if I compare it to the last video because after the second chorus I didn’t forgot to stop for awhile to let the guitarist do his solo part and then continue to play together again. In this video, I played better rather than in my last video.

Second week of Term 4

First of all, Mr. Herry told us to check our appearance because almost all of us didn’t tuck in our shirt. And then Mr. Herry check our attendance and also our resources that we should bring to the music class. After that, Mr. Herry asked us to submit our report about the role of music in the society. Only few of us submit it at that time, some of them said that they will submit it at the end of the day but still on the same day and there are also some of them who decide to submit the day after it or in the next time we have music class. And then Mr. Herry tell us that we have to submit the draft of our own creation of the jingle printed using finale software by next class. Mr. Herry asked us for the topic that we will be using for the jingle such as food, game or any other topics. Mr. Herry asked each of us about the topic and he records it in his notebook. After that, Mr. Herry let us practice for the group performance.

Instrument Class

Actually, Mr. Herry only give us time about 10 – 15 minutes to practice with the group and the respective teacher. After that we should come back to the music room to do the rehearsal because in the next class, we will do the assessment of this jazz group performance. However, all of us didn’t remember that we have to come back to the music room because we are busy practicing with our group in preparation for the assessment of this performance. While practicing with my group, Mr. Harry was there and he helps us to make sure that we are playing good with the song. Before we can have our recess time, Mr. Herry asked us to gather in the music room. Mr. Herry asked why we didn’t be there in the music room after the 10 minutes practice and actually by doing the rehearsal, Mr. Herry want to help us for the upcoming performance. At last, due to the reason it’s already time for our recess then he let us to go.

Today we didn’t have music class due to the reason that we are having the selling task in second floor for our business project.



This is the third video that I have recorded while I’m playing the piano in term 4. In this video, I’m practicing to play the chords of Fly Me To The Moon. This time, I have included playing the intro part although I think I still make mistake in the last part of that intro. For the rest part of the song, I think I didn’t make too many mistakes and I think I still need more practice to play this song.


This is the fourth video that I have recorded while I’m playing the piano in term 4. In this video, I’m still practicing to play the chords of Fly Me To The Moon again. This time, I play all of the parts of the song that are including the intro and also the ending parts. I didn’t make mistake in the intro part and I think this time is the best if I compare to all of my other videos that I have recorded to practice playing this song.
