Term 1 of Grade 10 D

Now I'm grade 10 D. Today is the first day of school and it also the first time of music class. Today is just an introduction of the class like what we need to bring to the music class, what do we need to do before entering the music class and introduction of the new students. Mr. Herry asked the new students to come to the front then introduce themselves telling their name, previous school and also what kind of music instrument that they can played or they have played before. After that, we discuss and decided the Grade 10 Essential Agreement which included the rules in music class. We also asked to choose what we want to learn for the music instrument class, Mr. Herry distributed small size papers where there are four choices that are piano, violin, flute, guitar and circled the one that we choose. However, the time is not enough so Mr. Herry decided to continue the decision for the distribution of the instrument class in the next meeting.

Today is the second time of music class. First of all, Mr. Herry check our resources that we need to bring to the music class by raised the things that was asked by him to show that we bring the resources. After checking our resources, Mr. Herry also check our appearance which mean that our shirts must be tuck-in. We also revised a little bit of our Grade 10 Essential Agreement. Then Mr. Herry start to continue talking about the distribution of the instrument class. There are twenty five people in our music class, so one of the instrument group must have seven members and the other three instrument groups only have six members. There are too many people who choose guitar so we decided to have an audition for them, before the audition there are nine people so three people must be out from the guitar instrument group. After the guitar audition, we finally decided the instrument class. At last, Mr. Herry asked us to write down the C major scale and after that he tell us to go to the instrument class.

Piano Class

Today is the first time of having the piano class. The time for this class is very limited so we have to use the time wisely. There are six members in this piano class, four of them are new students or students who doesn't take piano class last year and two other members which is me and Victoria are the exist students who have also take piano class last year. Then, Mr. Herry decided for the exist students no need to play anything first because he want to see the new students play the piano. However, the time is not enough for the four students to play the piano so only two people got the chance to play. I'm happy because I don't have to play the piano today :)

Today is the third time of music class. I think I'm the last one to come in to the classroom but I'm not late. Then Mr. Herry check our attendance and our resources that we need to bring to the music class at the same time. So, when Mr. Herry called our name, we said complete or not complete. If we bring the complete resources it means that we bring the music book, notebook, A4 clear folder, learning journal and also writing tools. After that, Mr. Herry tell us what we will do for today. First of all, we discuss the C major scale chord and determined which chord is major, minor or diminished. Then Mr. Herry tell us to do the same thing with the G major scale which is writing the chord, naming the chord and also determined what chord is it. After that, we discuss about the reflection and blog like what should we write, how to write it and when should we updated the blog. At last, Mr. Herry distributed the MYP Learning Plan & Task Booklet and we discuss about it. Before going to the instrument class, Mr. Herry also give us an example song that we can use for our singing assessment next week.

Piano Class

Today is the second time of having the piano class. I was the first one to play the piano and Mr. Herry ask me to play the C major scale in two octaves then continue wit the other scales that was from C - B. It's kind of a long time for me not playing the scales anymore so I need some practice for it to make my performance better next time. Before Mr. Herry comment on my performance in playing the piano today, I know that I need some practice in playing the scales. So, next time I will make my performance better than today. The time is also very limited so today not all of the students got the chance to play the piano.

Today is the fourth time of music class. Today I come early to the classroom. I think today Mr. Herry forgot to check our attendance and Mr. Herry also forgot to check our resources that we need to bring to the music class. One thing that Mr. Herry remember for today is checking our appearance, our shirt must be tuck in and our hair should be in the proper hair cut. First of all, Mr. Herry give us a piece of paper and in that paper, we need to write down about the scales. There are about six scales that we need to write down in the paper, it's like a test but Mr. Herry will not put the scores to our report because Mr. Herry just want to see that we understand the lessons. After that, we try to practice the singing for our assessment next week on Tuesday. Before singing, we was ask to stand up from our chair then we do the warming up for about five minutes and after that we continue with singing the two songs. First, we sing the song called "Always On My Mind" by Michael Buble and the second song called "Heal The World" by Michael Jackson. "Always On My Mind" song is easier to remember because the words are not too hard and it's not a long song but there are some parts that are hard to be sing. "Heal The World" song is a longer song but almost everyone in the class can sing this song and probably we are more familiar with the tune for singing this song. These two songs are only suggestions from Mr. Herry, we can sing another popular song which is related with the topics which are about human relations or about the problems in the world. At last which is around twenty-five minutes left before our break time, we can go to the instrument class.

Piano Class

Today is the third time of having the piano class. Today we have more time for this class and it's not like the other last days which we only have a very limited time. Mr. Herry ask us to write and make the major scales from C - B in our music book. While we are doing that, Mr. Herry called us one by one to play the piano for. In the piano, we should play the scales from C - B in two octaves. I'm the first one again who got the chance to play the piano, so I leave my work and go to the piano. I think today I have played better than yesterday because I have been practicing that scales at home. After I done playing the piano, I come back to my seat and continue my work which is writing the major scales. For the next class, I have to play the scales from C - B again and also with the contrary of each scales. At last, we have an extra time then Mr. Herry ask Victoria the best students for piano in our piano class to play a song in the piano and we enjoy listening to the song that she played.

Today is the fifth time of music class. First of all, Mr. Herry check our attendance and also check do we bring the complete resources or not. Some of my classmates don’t bring the complete resources then Mr. Herry gives the permission to one student only to go and buy it in the school stores. So, my other friends can give the money to that person and ask for their help to buy it. After that, Mr. Herry ask everyone what song will we be singing for the singing assessment tomorrow. Today is also the rehearsal day for the singing assessment. I’m the first one to do the rehearsal because I have prepared with the minus one like the karaoke version of the song, there’s no background singer it’s only the instrument playing. So, I use the computer to turn on my minus one and then I start singing. The song that I choose is Heaven by DJ Sammy. I sing only the first phrase and the chorus because today is only the rehearsal, no need to sing the whole song. After I finish with my rehearsal, I’m listening to the others rehearsal and I think I enjoy it. Mr. Herry always give some feedback after every performance. It’s a good idea of giving the feedback because from Mr. Herry feedback, we can improve our performance. For tomorrow assessment, we also need to write why we choose that song, simple and short background of the composer. Today, we don’t have any instrument class because today we use the whole session for the rehearsal.

Today is the sixth time of music class. First of all, Mr. Herry check our attendance and also our resources. After that, we were asked to stand up to check our uniform; it supposes to be tuck-in and looks need. Before starting the singing assessment, we do the singing warming up together as a whole class and it was lead by Mr. Harry. After finish the singing warming up, Mr. Herry distributed the Practical Assessment-Singing Performance booklet. In that booklet, we need to write the title of the song, the composer, why we choose that song, background information of the song, our preparation, how did we did it and also what we will do for the next time. Probably, these are like our comment on how we do this assessment. And later on, Mr. Herry will attached our picture showing our performance in the assessment. Then, we start the singing assessment. Mr. Herry give us a short time around five minutes before our chance to perform for us to get prepared. The order is according to the attendance list that means starting from the first alphabet to the last. I didn’t got the turn to perform today because the time is not enough, so I will do it in the next class which is Monday on August 9,2010.

Today is the seventh time of music class. First of all, because of Jeffrey Koby is absent, he is the class leader so I as the assistance of the class leader have to replace him by standing in front of the music class and check about the uniform of the students before they enter the class. After that, Mr. Herry check our attendance and then we continue the singing assessment. There are about eleven students who have not do the singing assessment and it is including me. Right after I done with my singing assessment, I continue completing the Practical Assessment-Singing Performance booklet. After we done with the singing assessment, Mr. Herry divided us into groups for us to do the group presentation next week. There are six groups doing different type of Western Music and each group consists of four members. I think I’m the group leader for my group and the members of my group are Ivan, Harsya, Ju Yeop Lee and me. Our group decided to choose to do the presentation about Country Music. And at last, we can go to the instrument class.

Piano Class

Today is the fourth time of having the piano class. Today I play the contrary from C – B. I think I do really well from C – G but the A and B contrary I did not play it really well so Mr. Herry ask me to re-do it next class. My finger nails on this day is also a little bit long, so in the next class I have to be ready with the proper finger nails. Today we only have a very limited time for this class, so two of my friends did not have the chance to play the piano today.

Today is the eighth time of music class. First of all, Mr. Herry write down the name of the group members for the group presentation next week in the white board. And then Mr. Herry ask us to sit with the groups. After that, Mr. Herry give us the yellow manila paper for us to write down about our discussion by making the draft outline on that manila paper. Mr. Herry give around ten minutes for us to do that and then we have to present it to the class. Right after we finish presenting to the class, we can ask two questions to the others about our presentation and the questions must be related to what we have presented. At last, Mr. Herry give us some suggestions on how to make a good power point presentation and how to make it not as a boring power point presentation. After finish writing the reflection and Mr. Herry has signs it, we can go to the instrument class.

Piano Class

Today is the fifth time of having the piano class. Today, first of all Victoria play the piano first because she is in the preparation for the recognition day tonight. So, Mr. Herry use this time to make the preparation and the practice for it. After that, it is my turn to play the piano. I only play the B contrary because yesterday it is the only thing that I have to re-do it again. And today I already have the proper finger nails not like yesterday. I did not really know if everyone got the turn to play the piano or not because when it’s time for recess, I leave first and my friends are still in the music room.

First video

This is my first video of myself playing the piano that I have recorded ever. I’m still wearing my uniform clothes and in this video, I was playing the Sonatina Op 36 no 3. I only played the first part only because I just learn to play until that part. I’m still making a lot of mistakes in playing this song and I made 3 mistakes in this video. Even though I made mistakes, I’m still continuing playing the song until finished.

Second video

This is my second video of me recording myself while playing the piano. In this video, I have practice almost five times before recording it so I have played the song well done in this video. I’m still playing the same song that is Sonatina Op 36 no 3 and also still the same part that is the first part only. Starting from now on, I will start learning the second part of this song and later on played the whole song of it that is playing the first and second part of the song.

Today is the ninth time of music class. First of all, Mr. Herry check our attendance. After that, we discuss about the presentation that actually due tomorrow but it’s holiday because of the Independence Day. So, Mr. Herry decided that today we have to do the presentation rehearsal. Mr. Herry to also asked us to sit with our group members. Two members from my group is absent so I tell Mr. Herry about it and asked for his permission not to do the presentation rehearsal. The first groups that do the presentation rehearsal are the Reggae group and the members of the group are Ais, Emily, Jeffrey Pribadi and Victoria. The second group is the Jazz group and the members of the group are Juan, Jeffrey Koby, Min Soo and Tiara. This is the last group who do the presentation rehearsal because the time is not enough for the other groups to do the presentation rehearsal. Before we are going to the instrument class, Mr. Herry ask us about the reflection on our blog because some of my friends haven’t tell to him about their blog site. Mr. Herry also tell us the website for us to study more at home about the scales, chords and others. The website name is http://teoria.com.

Piano Class

Today is the sixth time of having the piano class. Today, I’m the first one again to play the piano. Last time, Mr. Herry didn’t say anything to me for what I have to practice for the next class. So, today I play again the A and B contrary. After playing the contrary, Mr. Herry ask me to play one of the Sonatina song. Then I took my Sonatina book in my bag and after that I play the Sonatina Op 36 no 3. For the next class, Mr. Herry ask me to play this song again but it should be better and also I was ask to play the minor harmony contrary. I didn’t really know whether all of my friends got the chance to play or not because I was the first one who left the music room.

Third video

This is the third video of me recording myself while playing the piano. In this video, I was playing the second part of the song and I’m still playing the same song that is Sonatina Op 36 no 3. This time, I was just learning half of the second part. So in this video, I was just playing until the half of the second part and I have made 2 mistakes in this video. I haven’t spend a lot of time to practice playing this song so I think I need to spend more time to practice.

Fourth video

This is the fourth video of me recording myself while playing the piano. In this video, I was playing the second part of the song in full version. I’m still playing the same song that is Sonatina Op 36 no 3. This is the second time that I’m playing the full version of the second part; the first is very bad that’s why I didn’t record the first one. Even though this is my second time playing the second part of the song, I was still not really good in playing the song. I still made 3 mistakes and I paused or stop in the middle of the song because I didn’t really familiar yet with the next notes. So, hopefully I will do it better in the next video.

Today is the tenth time of music class. First of all, Mr. Herry called Jeffrey Koby and me as the class captain and vice class captain to check about our friend’s uniform. After that, Mr. Herry check our attendance and also about our resources. Today is our Group Assessment – Slide Presentation day. Mr. Herry write on the whiteboard the order of the group who will do the 1^st, 2^nd and so on. The 1^st group who will do the presentation is Classical Music, 2^nd is Country Music which is my group, 3^rd is Jazz Music, 4^th is Rock N Roll Music, 5^th is Reggae Music, 6^th and it’s the last is Popular Music. As the audience of the presentation, we have to be quiet while the presenters are presenting their presentation. Due to the limitation time that we have for music class, today only the first four groups who have done the presentation and there are still two more groups who haven’t do it so Reggae Music group and Popular Music group will do the presentation tomorrow. We spent all the time for doing this presentation and today we don’t have any instrument class.

Today is the 11^th time of music class. First of all, Mr. Herry check our resources by asking us to show the resources to the class. After that, we discuss about the assessment booklet. Mr. Herry remind us about our Classical Tune performance that is also one of the assessment that we need to do and its due two weeks from now. Then, we continue with the group presentation that is the two groups who haven’t do the presentation yesterday. After that, Mr. Herry make an overall feedback for our presentation and he also ask us to make a booklet with minimal 20 pages about our own group presentation (Country Music). 1 booklet is only for one person so everyone has to make it. This booklet can help us to improve our score for the assessment for this task. At the end, we can go to the instrument class.

Piano Class

Today is the 7^th time of having the piano class. I was the first one again who got the chance to play the piano. I’m still playing the same song that is Sonatina Op 36 no 3. I will play this song as my song for the performance in classical tune assessment. I think I still need a lot of practice to make my performance better because I still make many mistakes. I still have 2 more weeks to practice before the assessment day. Mr. Herry said that I’m always on time to leave the class and it’s true because when it’s time, I will be the first one who leaves the music room.

This is the 5^th video of me recording myself while playing the piano. In this video, I was playing the first part of the same song again that is Sonatina Op 36 no 3. This time, I play the song faster than before because Mr. Herry ask me to do that and it also because the song beats is fast. I think I still made 2 or 3 mistakes in this video. Hopefully, in the next video I will not make any mistakes because I have to make it good so I can able to move on and continue playing the second part of the song.

This is the 6^th video of me recording myself while playing the piano. In this video, I was still playing the same song and the same part that is the first part of Sonatina Op 36 no 3. I think this is the last time of my only playing the first part of the song because I have to move on learning the second part. And I think the time for the assessment day is also coming so I really have to practice a lot to make a good performance.

Today is the 12th time of music class. First of all, Mr. Herry ask Jeffrey Koby as the class captain and me as the vice class captain to check our friends uniform. After that, Mr. Herry check our attendance and our resources. Then, we continue studying all the seventh chords form C major scales. Today is also our rehearsal day for the Classical Performance Tune Assessment for next week. I’m the second person who does the rehearsal in front of the class. I think I still make a lot of mistakes and because of that, I have to practice more. After some people do the rehearsal, Mr. Herry tell us that we can go to our instrument class.

Piano Class
Today is the 8th time of having the piano class. Due to the reasons that I have play the piano during the rehearsal before, so Mr. Herry decides that I don’t have to play again in this piano class. So, today in this class I didn’t play the piano and I just watch my friends playing the piano, preparing for the rehearsal tomorrow.

Today is the 13th time of music class. First of all, Mr. Herry write down the name of students who have done the rehearsal and also the one who haven’t done it. After that, Mr. Herry check our attendance and also our resources. While doing this checking, Mr. Herry also check our reflection on blog because most of my friends haven’t update or even start to post something in their blog. Today I just watch my friend’s rehearsal. The first group to do the rehearsal is the students from guitar group and there are 4 people who do the rehearsal. After that, 1 person only from piano group and continue with the violin group where there are 5 people who do the rehearsal. At last, the woodwind group and if I’m not mistaken there are 4 people who do the rehearsal from this group. After finish with the rehearsal, Mr. Herry tell us to go to the instrument class.

Piano Class
Today is the 9th time of having the piano class. Today I’m not the first one who got the chance to play the piano and I got the second chance to play the piano. Mr. Herry said that this is also our chance to do another rehearsal. I still play the same song that is Sonatina Op 36 no 3. I think I still have many mistakes and because of this, Mr. Herry said that I can play only the first part of the song but I have to make it good. I will try to do my best in preparing for the performance assessment next week and hopefully I can play the full part of the song.

This is the 7^th video of me recording myself while playing the piano. In this video, I still play the same song again. I have practice for several times before recording this video but the result is still the same, I still make mistakes but I think not too many mistakes. This time I play the full part of the Sonatina Op 36 no 3 songs. My goal for after seeing this video recording is I will try to not make any mistakes in the next video in playing this song because I have to be prepared for the performance assessment next week.

This is the 8^th video of me recording myself while playing the piano. In this video, I am still playing the same song again with the full part of the Sonatina Op 36 no 3. Before recording this video, I have practice for many times not to make any mistakes in this recording video. Even though, I have tried my best not to make any mistakes but the result is still I make mistakes but it’s not too much like before. So, I’m a little bit happy because I think I have improved a little bit. I still need some more practice to make my performance in the assessment looks great and I will do my best for it.

Today is 14^th time of music class. First of all, Mr. Herry check our attendance and also our resources. Today is our assessment day for us to perform the classical song in front of the class. Piano is the first group members who will do the assessment. Due to the reason that Mr. Herry is the teacher for piano, so he decided to do it in the alphabetical order that’s mean that I’m the 5^th person who will do the assessment. After finish with the piano, then it continue with the violin group members. Then it follows with the guitar group members and the last is the flute/sax group members. After we finish with our assessment performing the classical tune, we have to complete the reflection based on the assessment that we have done. However, today we don’t have any instrument class.

Today is the 15^th time of music class and also this is the last class before the holiday of term 1. First of all, Mr. Herry check our attendance and also our resources. After that, Mr. Harry shows us to look at the video of our Binusian friend’s performance in the youtube. While we are looking at the video, Mr. Herry was taking our Music Developmental Workbook that’s still in the photocopy center. Then we continue with the assessment of the classical tune because there are 2 of my friends that haven’t done with the assessment of performing the classical tune. After all of us done with the assessment, Mr. Herry tell us about our scores for the assessment and he also give us the comment about our performance. At last, we have to complete doing the last assessment of this term that is the reflection assessment and it’s called Music Developmental Workbook.

Last but not least, this is my last reflection on term 1 :)
