Term 3 of Grade 10 D

Today is the first day of semester 2 and it is also the first time we have music in this semester. Today we just start term 3; however it’s our first day of school so Mr. Herry give us time to relax today by doing not too much works. Every session in Thursday for every week is split session. Therefore, Mr. Herry decided that on the first session we will stay in the music class then after the lunch break, we would have the instrument class. Basically, today we just review our score in last term assessment, tasks and homework. Mr. Herry read out loud the total score of each student and at the end, he also tell us who got the best score for this term. At first, my friends and Mr. Herry himself thought that Victoria got the best score but then after he counted again, it’s me and I’m a little bit surprise to know this information. Jeffrey Koby, class captain in music class is absent for today so Mr. Herry asked my help as I’m the vice class captain in music class to check the student attendance. Then because of some reasons, we as a whole class agree to change the music class captain and we do voting. Almost all of my friends choose Ivan to be the music class captain; therefore Ivan is our new class captain in music class. After the lunch break, Mr. Herry asked us to come back to the music room for about 15 minutes to discuss what we will learn in this term. Mr. Herry explain what we will be doing in this term, what is the topic that we will learn and also give us a little bit understanding about the topic. Jazz music is our topic for term 3. At last, Mr. Herry let us to go to the instrument class.

Piano Class

Today is the first day in term 3 of having the music class and also piano class. As we are learning Jazz music in this term, so Mr. Herry told us the basic thing that we have to learn about Jazz in piano. There are 2 important things that we have to learn in piano for Jazz music that are scales and chords. Today, I got the third chance to play the piano that was after Victoria and Tiara. Mr. Herry told us to play the right hand with the scale and the left hand with the chord of that scale. I haven’t got used to play this before therefore I have to practice to play it so I can do it better in the next class.

Today is the second day of term 3. I’m not coming on time for today because our last teacher Ms. Alma that is physical education teacher dismissed our class late. After that, I said sorry to Mr. Herry and told him the reason why every students in 10 D came late to class. Then Mr. Herry distributed to us the paper about Jazz music. All about the history, biography and others that are related to Jazz music was there in that papers. After distributing the papers, Mr. Herry gave us time to study the papers and after around 10 minutes, he will give us quiz about it. Before starting the quiz, Mr. Herry told us that in the end of last term we almost forgot about the topic that we learn for that term so this time Mr. Herry will make the quiz for the whole term. Due to the reason that the quiz will be for one term, the paper is thick enough and for today we only have to do until number 16 where it’s only one page back to back. After we done with the quiz and gave it back to Mr. Herry, he discussed the answers of the quiz. Then we continue studying the lesson about Jazz music and Mr. Herry told us to take down note in our music notebook about Jazz Modes. While explaining, Mr. Herry asked the piano students as we have learn this in piano class last week to give the class an example of Jazz Modes. Victoria and me play the Jazz Modes like what we have played last week in piano class in front of our classmates. Then Mr. Herry also give us an example using violin and guitar. At last, we can go to the instrument class.

Piano Class

Today is the second time that we have piano class in term 3. At first I thought that because I have played the piano in front of the class so I don’t have to play anymore. Then after my friends played the piano, Mr. Herry teach us for the next lesson. The next lesson is the opposite way of the last lesson so our left hand play the scale and our right hand play the chord of that scale. Therefore, I have to play the piano again. I haven’t used to this kind of lesson so it like in the last lesson, I’m playing not good enough for the first time but then when I got the time to practice then I’m sure that I can do it well.

Today is the third day of term 3. First of all, Mr. Herry asked Jeffrey Koby to play the guitar in front of the class because he played with the guitar just before we want to start today lesson. After that, Mr. Herry give us another papers about Jazz music. Ivan and me as the class captain and vice class captain were asked by Mr. Herry to help distributing the papers. Then Mr. Herry gave us approximately around 10 minutes for us to read and understand the papers about Jazz music that have just been distributed. While we are reading the papers, Mr. Herry turn on the song of Jazz music instrument using the computer and he said that it’s a ragtime song. After we done reading, we discuss about what we have read just now. In explaining, Mr. Herry also give us examples in different type of Jazz songs. Due to the reason today we have a split session for this music class, so we can have our lunch break first. After the lunch break, Mr. Herry asked three students from guitar group that are Ann, Raymond and Marco to played the Jazz Modes in front of the class. Then continue with students from violin group that are Ais, Juan and Frederik to played the same Jazz Modes. I enjoyed their performance although Mr. Herry still ask them to practice more especially the guitar to play it together next time. At last, we can go to the instrument class.

Piano Class

Today is the third time that we have piano class in term 3. First of all, Mr. Herry asked Saskia and Tiara to play the Jazz Modes that we have learned last week. Then Mr. Herry teach us a new thing that is simple chord progression of II – V₇ – I. Mr. Herry give us example on how to play it but I think it’s not easy and a little bit hard. Due to the limited time of our instrument class, only Victoria got the time to play the whole task of what Mr. Herry was asking us to play. I only played the simple chord progression of II – V₇ – I but it’s not all that Mr. Herry asked us to play because there is still more which I haven’t really understand on how to play it. Therefore we decided to record the sound and record as a video on how to play it. Hopefully I can practice it at home and play it well in the next class.

This is the first video that I have recorded my self-playing the piano in term 3. In this video, I was playing the Jazz modes where the right hand plays the scale and the left hand playing the chord of that scale. I think this is a short video because I’m able to play it well therefore no pause in playing that Jazz modes. Before recording this video, I have practice first therefore I’m able not to make mistakes in this video recording.

Video 2

This is the second video that I have recorded my self-playing the piano in term 3. In this video, I was playing the Jazz modes again. Well, this time I change the position so my left hand plays the scale and my right hand playing the chord of that scale. Before recording this video, I have practice therefore in this video I didn’t make any mistake although still got one mistakes well it’s really a mistake but pressing another notes accidently. Next time, I’ll do it better than this video.

Today is the fourth day of term 3. First of all, Mr. Herry asked us do we know about ‘I got rhythm’ song. I have heard it before but I don’t know the song then Mr. Herry said that we have to learn it for our singing assessment. After that, Mr. Herry told us another work that is our first essay task. The due date for this essay task is on Thursday, 27 January 2011 that is on the next lesson. Mr. Herry asked us to count from one to three that was how he divided the students to choose the topic of the essay and there are only three topics. The font of the essay should be 12 and use double spacing. After that, we gather in a group by the same numbers to discuss about that specific topic and after around 15 minutes, we have to come up with 5 points as our result of the group discussion. Wahyu and I were asked to come to the front as the representative of my group telling our group discussion result to the class. Then, we continue with playing the Jazz modes. The students from woodwind group, the first is Brian then continue with Jeffrey Pribadi together with Wahyu. After woodwind, then move on to guitar where Shanika Indira goes first after that Lee. Then the last is Dwi from the violin group. After we done with the performance, then we can go to the instrument class.

Piano Class

Today is the fourth time that we have piano class in term 3. First of all, Mr. Herry showed us again on how to play the chord progression ii – v – i. Almost all of us don’t really understand and know what to press in the piano so Mr. Herry write it down in the white board. Well, he doesn’t write down the notes but only the key of it. I copied it to my notebook then I come to my turn to play the piano. I played the chord progression but I think there wasn’t much progress then the last time before I didn’t practice, it because I don’t know how to play it and Mr. Herry update it on his facebook late, I mean not as fast as I expected. So far, I have just played until the second chord progression and I still have to practice on it soon and hopefully in the next lesson I can do it better.

Today is the fifth day of term 3. First of all, Mr. Herry gave us another paper about Jazz music handout. After that he gave us around five to six minutes to read the handout and then we discuss about what we have just read. Overall the handout is still about the history of it. After we done with the discussion, Mr. Herry give us a song lyrics called “I Got Rhythm” and then he told us that we have to learn that song for our singing assessment in the second week of February. It’s a short song but I’m not familiar yet with the song so I have to learn it and make a good performance later on. We also practice to sing the song together as a whole class. First we follow Mr. Herry in teaching us the song then after that we try to sing by our self and it sounds bad, not like a song therefore we have to learn the song in our weekend. At last, it’s lunchtime and we can have our lunch.

Piano Class

Today is the fifth time that we have piano class in term 3. First of all, Mr. Herry told us the notes of the chord progression in the white board then we copied it to our music book. After that we start to take chance playing the piano. When it comes to my turn, I’m playing the chord progression with my notes in my music book and I didn’t play it well. I only played until the fourth where the there are six of them. I haven’t practice playing this at home because I still confuse with this chord progression. When I was playing, one finger of my left hand feels so hurt therefore I can’t continue to play the fifth and the sixth. As my conclusion for today, I have to practice playing the chord progression at home and hopefully in the next class I can play it well.

This is the third video that I have recorded my self-playing the piano in term 3. In this video, I was playing the chord progression. It’s hard for me to play it but then I have to practice. While recording this video, I haven’t practice yet before so in this video I’m playing it not too good and still make many mistakes. I will practice more and make a better video next time.

Although I have tried to practice for several times before recording this video, but then I still make many mistakes in playing this chord progression. I need more practice to make it better.

Today I didn’t come to the music class due to the reason that I have to attend the trial ISA test. I have to stay to do the test until recess time, however this music class is before recess time therefore I can’t come to this class. I asked my friends what are they doing today in the music class and I also know that we have homework that is essay task 2 where we have to write about Jazz and it’s role in society. The content must include introduction, body and conclusion. It should be around 1000 words, 0.5 spacing and the font is 12, comic sans ms. The due date for this essay is 8 February 2011 that is next week.

Holiday! Chinese New Year :)

This is the fifth video that I have recorded my self-playing the piano in term 3. In this video, I’m still playing the chord progression. I have tried to play it without making mistakes but it seems that I can’t do it; it’s hard for me to play that chord progression. I still got stuck in the middle of playing it and make some mistakes in it. Hopefully in the next video I can play it better than in this video.

This is the sixth video that I have recorded my self-playing the piano in term 3. In this video, I’m playing the chord progression again. I have tried to practice for several times before recording this video but then I still make mistakes. However, I think this time I played it better although I still make some mistakes but no stop or got stuck in playing it. For this week, I keep recording the chord progression in the video because I’m not sure what should we do therefore I decided to continue the chord progression.
